UP LPG Black Marketing Crackdown: 10 Arrested, 60 FIRs

Uttar Pradesh Launches Major Crackdown on LPG Cylinder Black Marketing

In a significant enforcement drive, Uttar Pradesh authorities have arrested at least 10 individuals and registered 60 First Information Reports (FIRs) following a series of inspections and raids targeting the illegal trade of LPG cylinders. This large-scale campaign, initiated on March 12, has involved 4,816 inspections across the state, reflecting a robust response to consumer complaints and market irregularities.

Strict Directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

The crackdown was launched under the direct orders of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has mandated enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts against black marketing and illegal sales. A state government spokesperson confirmed that this initiative aims to safeguard consumer interests and ensure the fair distribution of essential commodities.

Key actions taken include:

  • Registration of 10 FIRs specifically against LPG distributors implicated in malpractice.
  • Filing of 60 additional FIRs against other individuals involved in the black marketing network.
  • Continuous surveillance at 4,108 LPG distributorships to monitor stock levels and delivery compliance.

Enhanced Monitoring and Control Measures

To bolster oversight, the state government has implemented a multi-layered monitoring system. Authorities are regularly reviewing stock levels and ensuring that gas cylinder deliveries align with consumer bookings, thereby preventing hoarding and unauthorized sales.

An official statement highlighted: "The state government is maintaining strict surveillance at LPG distributorships to guarantee that consumers receive their cylinders as per bookings. Availability of refills is being closely tracked to meet demand effectively."

In response to a central government policy allowing 20% allocation of commercial cylinders from total consumption, Uttar Pradesh officials are vigilantly monitoring its implementation to curb any potential misuse. This measure is designed to balance commercial and domestic needs while deterring illegal activities.

24-Hour Control Room and Field Vigilance

A dedicated 24-hour control room has been established at the office of the Food and Civil Supplies Commissioner to address issues related to petroleum product distribution. Staffed round-the-clock, this facility ensures prompt response to grievances and operational challenges.

Additionally, district-level control rooms have been set up, with officers and personnel assigned to maintain continuous monitoring. District supply officers and local administrative officials are conducting regular field visits to assess the ground situation and ensure an uninterrupted supply of LPG to consumers.

This comprehensive approach underscores the state's commitment to cracking down on black marketing, enhancing transparency in the LPG supply chain, and protecting consumer rights amidst ongoing efforts to stabilize essential commodity distribution.
