UP Minister Slams Akhilesh Over Power Sector During SP Rule

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, criticizing the state of the power sector during the previous SP government. The remarks came amid a political controversy sparked by unidentified posters calling Akhilesh Yadav a “Katiyabaaz” in various parts of the state.

Allegations of Widespread Electricity Theft

Sharma alleged that the electricity system in Uttar Pradesh had severely deteriorated during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure. He claimed that organized electricity theft was rampant, with leaders, mafias, and local strongmen operating illegal power connections. According to the minister, theft had become systematic in several districts, including Sambhal and Mathura.

Government’s Response and Measures

The minister stated that the current government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken strict action against such illegal activities and strengthened monitoring in the power sector. He emphasized that the administration is committed to ensuring reliable electricity supply to all citizens.

Infrastructure Issues Under Previous Government

Sharma further alleged that transformers, poles, and electricity wires installed during the earlier government were of poor quality, resulting in frequent breakdowns and technical failures. He claimed that the current government is still dealing with the repercussions of those shortcomings. Additionally, he accused the previous administration of making appointments in the department without merit.

The minister’s comments have intensified the political debate over power sector management in Uttar Pradesh, with the ruling party and opposition trading charges ahead of upcoming elections.
