The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission has released the final voter list for the upcoming panchayat elections, incorporating over 40 lakh new voters. The updated list now includes a total of 15.25 crore voters across the state, marking a significant increase from the previous draft list.
Key Highlights of the Final Voter List
The final list, published on Tuesday, reflects a net addition of 40.38 lakh voters after the revision process. The draft list had 14.85 crore voters, but following claims and objections, the final figure rose to 15.25 crore. This includes 8.15 crore male voters, 7.10 crore female voters, and 1,632 transgender voters.
Women Voter Participation on the Rise
One notable aspect is the increased participation of women voters. The final list shows that women constitute a substantial portion of the new additions, with 7.10 crore female voters now enrolled. This indicates a growing trend of women's involvement in the electoral process at the grassroots level.
Revision Process and Claims
The revision of the voter list was carried out meticulously, allowing for claims and objections from the public. The commission received numerous applications for additions, deletions, and corrections. After verification, over 40 lakh new voters were included, while some duplicate or ineligible entries were removed.
Preparations for Panchayat Elections
With the final voter list in place, the State Election Commission is now gearing up for the panchayat elections. The elections are expected to be held in multiple phases across the state. The commission has directed all district magistrates and chief development officers to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
Ensuring Free and Fair Elections
The commission has emphasized the importance of free and fair elections. Strict instructions have been issued to prevent any malpractices. Adequate security arrangements will be made, and electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in all polling stations to ensure transparency.
Voter Awareness Campaigns
To encourage maximum voter turnout, the commission is conducting awareness campaigns, especially in rural areas. Voter education programs are being organized to inform citizens about the voting process and their rights. The focus is on ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their franchise without any hindrance.
The release of the final voter list marks a crucial step towards the panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. With over 15 crore voters, the state is set to witness one of the largest local body elections in the country.
