Upendra Kushwaha Re-elected RLM National President for 2026-29

Patna: Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha was unanimously re-elected national president of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) for the 2026-29 term at the party’s national convention in Delhi on Saturday.

Amid speculation over the future of his son Deepak Prakash in the Bihar cabinet, Kushwaha assured party workers that his position was secure. Deepak is not a member of either House of the legislature and was not among the nominees for the 10 legislative council seats announced recently, triggering political speculation.

Addressing the convention, Kushwaha said Deepak would continue as a minister as long as the NDA government remained in power in Bihar. Chief minister Samrat Choudhary had also stated on Friday that Deepak would remain a member of the cabinet.

Political Resolutions Adopted

The convention also adopted several political resolutions after deliberations on the country’s political, social and economic situation. The party appreciated the development initiatives undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed confidence that India would achieve greater global prominence in the coming years.

The convention acknowledged former chief minister Nitish Kumar’s contribution to Bihar’s development while noting that significant work remains to be done in the fields of education, health, industry and employment.

Demand for Judicial Reforms

The RLM reiterated its demand for a review of the collegium system to ensure greater transparency in judicial appointments and called for the creation of an Indian Judicial Service (IJS) on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The party said such reforms were necessary to promote social justice, transparency and equal opportunity in the judicial system.

Cultural Proposals

Among its cultural proposals, the party demanded that Patna be renamed Pataliputra, January 3 be observed nationally as Women’s Education Day in honour of Savitribai Phule, and a life-size statue of Jannayak Karpoori Thakur be installed in the Parliament complex.
