UP's Rs 24,496 Crore Supplementary Budget Focuses on Industry

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken a significant step to accelerate the state's development by introducing a major supplementary budget for the current fiscal year. On Monday, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna tabled this additional financial proposal worth Rs 24,496 crore in the state assembly.

Key Focus Areas and Major Allocations

Minister Khanna stated that the supplementary budget is designed to maintain the pace of progress, channel extra resources to critical sectors, and speed up schemes to meet new demands. The primary sectors identified for this infusion of funds are industrial development, power, health, and urban infrastructure.

The size of this supplementary budget is approximately 3.3% of the total annual outlay of about Rs 8.08 lakh crore that was presented in February. Khanna reaffirmed the government's commitment to fiscal discipline, adhering to the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act norms.

Where the Money is Going: A Sector-Wise Breakdown

The budget outlines clear priorities with substantial allocations. The top beneficiary is the industrial development sector, which gets a massive Rs 4,874 crore. This is closely followed by the power sector, receiving Rs 4,521 crore. The health and family welfare department has been allocated Rs 3,500 crore to strengthen medical services across the state.

Other significant allocations include:

  • Rs 1,758.56 crore for urban development.
  • Rs 639.96 crore for technical education.
  • Rs 535 crore for women and child development.
  • Rs 500 crore for UPNEDA to promote solar and renewable energy projects.
  • Rs 423.80 crore for medical education.
  • Rs 400 crore for the sugarcane and sugar mill sector.

Infrastructure Push and Economic Outlook

A major highlight is the focused push on infrastructure to boost connectivity and industry. The government has earmarked Rs 1,246 crore specifically for constructing an access-controlled greenfield expressway that will link the upcoming Jewar Airport with the Ganga Expressway. Furthermore, Rs 1,835 crore has been set aside for the Ganga Expressway itself, and Rs 100 crore for the Gorakhpur link expressway.

Presenting an optimistic economic picture, Finance Minister Khanna cited Government of India estimates projecting Uttar Pradesh's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at Rs 31.14 lakh crore, which is higher than the state's own previous assessments. He emphasized that under CM Yogi Adityanath's leadership, Uttar Pradesh is on a steady path to becoming a revenue-surplus state, indicating a strengthening economic foundation.

This supplementary budget underscores the state government's strategy to fuel growth through targeted investments in core industries, essential infrastructure, and public welfare schemes, aiming to solidify Uttar Pradesh's position as a key economic driver.
