MDMK Leader Durai Vaiko Defends Tamil Nadu's Crime Record, Slams Opposition
In a robust rebuttal to opposition parties alleging a surge in criminal activities across Tamil Nadu, Trichy MP Durai Vaiko asserted that the state's crime rate remains significantly lower compared to many northern Indian states. The MDMK leader made these remarks during a press conference held in Madurai on Sunday, where he was accompanied by sitting MLA and party candidate for Madurai South assembly constituency, M Boominathan.
Comparative Crime Statistics Highlighted
Durai Vaiko acknowledged that crimes do occur in Tamil Nadu, but emphasized that under the current DMK administration, law enforcement agencies have demonstrated remarkable efficiency. "Immediate action is consistently taken, and perpetrators are swiftly arrested," he stated, referencing the past five years of DMK governance. He contrasted this with the situation in Delhi, the national capital, where daily crime reports often go unchecked and uncontrolled, suggesting that Tamil Nadu's response mechanisms are more effective.
Sharp Criticism of AIADMK-BJP Alliance Dynamics
Turning his attention to the political landscape, Vaiko launched a scathing attack on the AIADMK-BJP alliance. He claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now dictates all major decisions within the coalition, effectively reducing the AIADMK to a subordinate entity. "The AIADMK, once proudly led by iconic figures like M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, is now being guided entirely by the BJP," he lamented. This shift, according to Vaiko, has deeply disheartened traditional AIADMK supporters who view the party as operating merely as a branch of the BJP.
Political Contest Framed as DMK vs AIADMK
Vaiko further simplified the electoral competition by dismissing other regional players. He asserted that parties like TVK and NTK are essentially functioning as "BJP's B-Team," thereby narrowing the real contest to a direct face-off between the DMK and AIADMK. Expressing unwavering confidence, he predicted a historically significant victory for the DMK-led alliance in the upcoming elections, attributing this anticipated success to widespread public support.
The press conference served as a platform for Vaiko to not only defend the incumbent government's law and order record but also to strategically position the DMK as the primary alternative to what he portrayed as a BJP-dominated opposition bloc.
