A tragic road accident in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a young factory worker and left five others injured. The incident involved a van that was transporting labourers to a firecracker manufacturing unit in the industrial town of Sivakasi.

Details of the Sivakasi Factory Van Accident

The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, around 10 am. According to police reports, a van belonging to a private firecracker unit was carrying nine workers to its factory located in Sivakasi. The vehicle was travelling on the A Ramalingapuram-Kodangipatti state highway. The driver, identified as Murugan, was reportedly overspeeding when he approached a sharp turn near the Achchandavilthan pond.

Police sources stated that Murugan lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the sharp bend. This caused the van to overturn and fall into the nearby pond. The sudden crash trapped the occupants inside the mangled vehicle.

Rescue Efforts and Casualties

Alert locals who witnessed the accident rushed to the scene to help the passengers escape from the overturned van. Their prompt action likely prevented further tragedy.

Tragically, 24-year-old Vignesh from Chennakulam died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. Five women workers sustained various injuries in the accident. The driver, Murugan, and two other passengers managed to escape without any physical harm.

All the injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Srivilliputhur Government Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The condition of the injured women is currently being assessed by doctors at the facility.

Police Investigation and Legal Action

Law enforcement officials from the Vanniyampatti police station quickly arrived at the accident site to begin their investigation. The body of the deceased, Vignesh, was sent to the Srivilliputhur Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police have registered a case against the van driver, Murugan, in connection with the fatal crash. Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding and loss of control as the primary causes of the accident. Further legal proceedings will follow as the inquiry continues.
