Vijay Commences Candidate Selection for 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
In a significant move towards the 2026 Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections, TVK president Vijay conducted interviews with the first batch of 50 aspirants on Tuesday. This marks the beginning of a structured selection process for the party's electoral candidates.
Diverse Backgrounds Among Interviewed Aspirants
The initial group of candidates featured a mix of long-time loyalists and fresh faces. Prominent among them were fan club leaders and individuals who had previously secured victories in local body elections under the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam banner. Many have maintained their association with Vijay for over a decade, demonstrating enduring commitment to his political vision.
Notable aspirants included TVK district secretaries such as:
- 'ECR' Saravanan, anticipated to contest from Sholinganallur constituency
- Anban Kallanai from Madurai (West)
- Parthiban from Salem (South)
The list also encompassed Mohammed Parveez, a councillor from Pudukottai, along with several others who triumphed as ward members in the 2021 local polls. Additionally, Vijay interviewed a select group of aspirants from non-political backgrounds, aged between 40 and 50, who joined the party following TVK's official launch in 2024.
Structured Interview Process and Motivational Guidance
Aspirants were brought before Vijay in groups of five during the interview sessions. The TVK president used this opportunity to offer both encouragement and realistic expectations. He expressed his hope to see them elected as Members of the Legislative Assembly soon, while acknowledging that challenges would inevitably arise during their political journey.
"He emphasized that the party would confront these obstacles collectively," revealed one candidate, who added that Vijay urged them to commence work in their respective constituencies with confidence and determination. The actor-turned-politician reiterated his personal motivation, explaining that he transitioned from acting to politics with the primary objective of serving the people.
Comprehensive Constituency Kits Distributed
Following the interviews, each aspirant received a specially prepared bag labeled with their prospective constituency name. These kits contained essential materials to facilitate their groundwork, including:
- A detailed constituency profile outlining demographic and geographic characteristics
- Comprehensive voter statistics and electoral data
- Information about existing booth committees and organizational structures
- A pen drive containing digital resources and strategic documents
- A booklet specifying tasks and objectives to be accomplished within the next 30 days
Ongoing Selection Process and Strategic Planning
Vijay is expected to continue this selection process in the coming days, with plans to interview remaining shortlisted aspirants at Panaiyur. This systematic approach underscores TVK's methodical preparation for the upcoming electoral battle.
Prior to the candidate interviews, TVK conducted an important strategy meeting with state-level functionaries KA Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand, and Arun Raj. The session focused on reviewing poll preparedness in constituencies where the party has been actively working for several weeks. According to TVK sources, these functionaries are likely to contest from Gobichettipalayam, Villivakkam, T Nagar, and Tiruchengode respectively, indicating careful consideration of both organizational strength and electoral viability.
This comprehensive candidate selection initiative demonstrates TVK's commitment to fielding a balanced mix of experienced political workers and fresh talent, while establishing clear expectations and providing necessary resources for electoral success in 2026.
