Vijay to Contest in Trichy East, TVK Cadres Celebrate Assembly Candidacy

Vijay Announces Trichy East Candidacy, TVK Cadres Celebrate with Crackers

In a significant development for the upcoming assembly election, TVK president Vijay confirmed his candidature in Trichy East, alongside Perambur, around Sunday noon. This announcement ended weeks of uncertainty among fans and cadres, who erupted in joy and burst crackers across the city to celebrate their leader's decision.

TVK Unveils Candidates for Multiple Constituencies

The party has strategically named candidates for several key seats. In Trichy East, Vijay will contest in an area known for its strong minority voters base. Meanwhile, former AIADMK minister Ku Pa Krishnan, who recently joined TVK, will run in Lalgudi. Krishnan is seen as the mutharaiyar community face of the party and is expected to lead TVK's activities in the central zone.

In Thiruverumbur, another new entrant, Navalpattu Viji—previously with DMK—has been given the opportunity to compete against minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi. Former AIADMK minister N Subramanian is contesting from Gandarvakottai (reserved) in Pudukottai district, a seat he won back in 2011.

Controversial Candidate in Karur and Other Nominations

In Karur, where a tragic stampede killed 41 people during Vijay's campaign last year, V P Mathiazhagan, the Karur West district president, has been named as the TVK candidate. Mathiazhagan was arrested and briefly jailed in connection with the incident, adding a layer of controversy to his nomination.

Additionally, G Ramamoorthy and S Ramesh have been appointed as TVK candidates for Trichy West and Srirangam, respectively. Ramesh serves as a state functionary in the party's media wing, highlighting the importance of these roles in the election strategy.

Discontent Among TVK Functionaries Over Newcomers

With TVK awarding seats to newcomers from both DMK and AIADMK, there is growing discontent among a section of party functionaries who have been working diligently for months. This internal friction could impact party cohesion as the election approaches, raising questions about how TVK will manage these dynamics in its campaign efforts.
