Tamil Nadu's political landscape has been thrown into uncertainty as Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) struggles to secure the support needed to form the next government. Despite Congress backing and negotiations with smaller parties like VCK, CPI, CPM, IUML, and AMMK, repeated alliance reversals and last-minute political twists have stalled TVK's push for power.
Governor's Demand for Written Support
Governor RV Arlekar reportedly demanded written support from at least 118 MLAs before allowing Vijay to stake claim. This condition has proven difficult for TVK to meet, as key allies remain hesitant. VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has emerged as the central figure in the unfolding political drama, with his party's support seen as crucial for TVK to reach the majority mark.
Alliance Reversals and Political Twists
The negotiations have been marked by frequent changes in positions among the smaller parties. At times, VCK and others appeared close to backing TVK, only to withdraw or set new conditions. This has created a volatile situation, with TVK unable to finalize its coalition. The Congress party has offered its support, but it alone is insufficient to secure the numbers required.
Pressure Mounts as Assembly Term Ends
With the Assembly term ending on May 10, pressure is mounting rapidly. If no government is formed in time, Tamil Nadu faces the possibility of fresh elections. Political analysts suggest that the ongoing deadlock could lead to a prolonged political crisis, impacting governance and development in the state.
The coming hours are critical, as TVK leaders intensify efforts to persuade the remaining allies. Meanwhile, other political parties are watching closely, with some indicating willingness to form an alternative government if TVK fails. The situation remains fluid, and the final outcome is uncertain.
