In a shocking incident in Chittoor district, locals ransacked a liquor pickup truck after an accident and made off with a large quantity of alcohol bottles. The incident took place near Basireddypalli in SR Puram mandal on Saturday.
Accident Details
According to the SR Puram police, a liquor consignment was heading to Karvetinagaram from Chittoor. When the vehicle was crossing Basireddypalli village, one of its tyres suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control. The truck overturned, spilling several cartons of liquor onto the road.
Mad Rush for Alcohol
Villagers who reached the spot grabbed as many liquor bottles and cartons as possible, triggering a chaotic scramble. By the time local police arrived after being informed, nearly half the consignment, valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh, had been stolen.
Police Investigation
The SR Puram police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations. The injured driver of the pickup truck was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify the perpetrators. The stolen alcohol is believed to have been taken by multiple villagers, and efforts are underway to recover the loot.
