Vokkaliga Seer Backs DK Shivakumar as Karnataka CM Amid Power Struggle Talks
Vokkaliga Seer Supports Shivakumar for Karnataka CM Post

Spiritual Leader's Endorsement Fuels Karnataka Leadership Debate

In a significant political development that has intensified speculation about leadership changes in Karnataka, Nanjavadutha Swamiji, a prominent seer of the Vokkaliga community, visited Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's residence on Friday. The high-profile meeting comes amid ongoing discussions about potential power sharing between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy.

Swamiji's Strong Endorsement for Shivakumar

The spiritual leader didn't mince words when expressing his support for Shivakumar as the state's next Chief Minister. Speaking to news agency ANI, Nanjavadutha Swamiji praised Shivakumar's loyalty to the Congress party and the Gandhi family, highlighting his dedication during challenging periods.

"Shivakumar is a prominent leader of the community, and his contributions to the party will never be forgotten," the seer stated. "He faced immense hardships, but despite being given the responsibility of the party presidency during a challenging time, he didn't lose heart and worked tirelessly to strengthen the party. He remained loyal to the Sonia and Rahul Gandhi family."

Community Representation Demands

The religious leader emphasized the need for Vokkaliga community representation in the state's leadership, arguing that after the AHINDA community's leadership under Siddaramaiah, it was time for Vokkaligas to get their opportunity.

"Siddaramaiah brought the party to power with the support of various communities. Now, we request that after the AHINDA community, it's time for the Vokkaligas to be given an opportunity," Nanjavadutha Swamiji asserted.

He further elaborated on the community's perspective: "Devaraj Arasu worked for the welfare of all communities. In today's scenario, no one is willing to help us. We request that the person who is acceptable to all communities should be given the CM's post."

The spiritual leader revealed that expectations had initially been for Siddaramaiah to become CM in the first term, but considering his age (75), the community believed Shivakumar should now get the opportunity. He also mentioned that all sections of society are supporting Shivakumar for the top position.

Congress Leadership Responds to Speculation

Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge attempted to downplay the leadership change speculation. After meeting with Shivakumar, Kharge addressed reporters and dismissed rumors about political discussions during his visit.

"If I have an administrative problem, I will go to my CM and DCM. I wanted clarification in the urban body. That is why I come," Kharge explained. "Tomorrow, if I meet Kharge also, you will ask what you discussed politically? Unnecessary speculation is not necessary."

Kharge pointed fingers at media and opposition for creating ambiguity, stating: "What did CM say? High command. So where is the ambiguity coming from? The ambiguity is only in the Media and the BJP, not in public or with Congress."

The minister emphasized that both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar would respond to any summons from the party high command. "The Chief Minister and DCM have already said that if the high command summons them, they will go. Let them call, and we will see," he added.

Kharge concluded by noting that party interventions are routine in Congress's 130-year history, stating that "the high command will assess the time and the situation and then decide. It is nothing new."

The developments highlight the ongoing political dynamics within the Karnataka Congress as different communities voice their expectations regarding leadership representation in the state government.
