Wardha Samiti Demands Revocation of Goras Bhandar Restrictions

The Goras Bhandar Bachav Nagari Samiti has urged the Wardha administration to immediately revoke its orders imposing restrictions on the operations of Goras Bhandar. In a memorandum submitted to the district collector, the committee demanded that the government issue orders allowing Goras Bhandar to restart its production, distribution, and sales centres without delay.

Historical Significance and Cooperative Role

According to the memorandum, Goras Bhandar has been functioning since 1938 and is a crucial institution in Wardha's cooperative movement. It serves as a vital link between farmers, employees, distributors, and consumers. The committee emphasized that the institution has played a key role in the local economy for nearly a century.

Allegations of Unfair Administrative Action

The samiti claimed that the administrative action was taken without prior notice and without providing adequate opportunity for carrying out corrective measures. It stated that the sudden disruption in production and sales operations has severely affected the livelihoods of farmers, workers, and distributors. The committee also noted that the local economy has been negatively impacted due to the halt in operations.

Demands for Dialogue and Compliance Time

The samiti urged the administration to provide reasonable time for complying with regulations. It further demanded that any future action should be taken only after discussions with all concerned stakeholders, including farmers, employees, distributors, and consumer representatives. The committee expressed hope for a positive decision, reiterating that Goras Bhandar is an institution with a legacy of nearly a century and its operations should be restored at the earliest.

The development highlights the ongoing tension between regulatory compliance and the preservation of historic cooperative institutions in Maharashtra. The district collector has yet to respond to the memorandum.
