Warring slams AAP over Punjab assembly special session on Labour Day

Chandigarh: Asserting that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab was "not sincere to anybody, including the labourers," Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Thursday criticized the special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to mark 'Labour Day' as a "characteristic theatrical diversionary tactic of the ruling party as it was faced with an existential threat after defection of seven MPs."

He further remarked, "Besides, it is too little and too late." The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president questioned the purpose of the special session, asking, "What purpose will the special session serve for the labourers, when the government is on the last leg of its tenure and that too crippled? When the government is not sure of its own survival and existence, what can it do for the labourers?"

Warring stated, "The AAP has been holding special sessions so frequently to divert the attention and shrug off its responsibility that such sessions have lost their speciality of being special." He alleged that Punjab under the AAP government was the worst-performing state on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). According to him, not even 50% of registered labourers were covered under the scheme during the last four years, and not even 1% of them got 100 days' mandatory work.
