Gurgaon: More than 50 households in Sector 28 have reported severe water supply disruptions over the past month, with some lanes receiving no water for the last three days as temperatures soar in the city.
Residents Voice Frustration Over Deteriorating Water Supply
Harsh Jaidka, a resident, said the situation has worsened this summer despite repeated complaints to authorities. “Till last year, the situation was manageable. There were supply issues, but they were under control. This year, the system has failed to cope with the increasing demand,” he stated.
Residents claim that water supply is available for only 15 to 20 minutes per day. In several parts of the sector, they allege, there has been no supply at all for the past three days. “Today is the third consecutive day that we have not received any water. Earlier, underground tanks used to fill automatically during supply hours, but proper water flow has not been seen for over a month,” Jaidka added.
Rapid Commercialization Aggravates Water Demand
Residents attribute the crisis to rapid commercialization in the area over the past two years, which has significantly increased water demand. They also allege that potable water is being used openly at construction sites despite norms requiring treated or tanker water for such activities. “Earlier, one plot had one family. Now, in many places, builder floors and commercial establishments have increased water demand several times. Further, there is no monitoring of water use at construction sites,” another resident said.
Dependence on Private Tankers Raises Expenses
With supply remaining irregular, many households have started depending on private water tankers for daily needs. “Dependence on tankers has increased expenses, with rates ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 per tanker. We have raised the matter with officials several times, but there has been no resolution so far,” said the RWA president, Harinder Anand.
When contacted, MCG chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said, “I will look into the matter and needful will be done.”
