Hazaribag: A woman in Hazaribag displayed exemplary courage by chasing down a chain-snatcher, recovering her stolen belongings and helping police nab the accused, SP Aman Kumar said on Sunday.
Incident Details
The incident took place on Saturday in the Korra police station area when Sanju Devi was travelling on a two-wheeler along with her husband after visiting a doctor. The couple were on their way to Bonga in Ichak police station area when two criminals on a scooter targeted them.
Police said the accused snatched Sanju Devi’s handbag and gold chain from her neck before trying to flee. Instead of giving up, Sanju Devi raised an alarm and chased the robber on her scooter. She caught hold of him in the middle of the road near the local collectorate.
Public Intervention
As she shouted for help, local residents gathered at the spot and overpowered the accused. He was beaten by the crowd before being handed over to police.
The arrested accused was identified as Arbaaz Khan, a resident of Pelawal in Hazaribag. Police said he was allegedly involved in the robbery, while the another accused who was with him managed to escape.
Police Appreciation
Addressing a press conference, SP Aman Kumar praised Sanju Devi’s presence of mind and bravery. “A woman, Sanju Devi, showed exemplary courage by recovering the stolen chain that was snatched by the accused, caught hold of the accused and handed him over to police,” he said.
Police said the accused became a headache for law enforcers in the area. Efforts are on to trace and arrest his accomplice.
