A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district, where a 19-year-old woman lost her life and her alleged partner remains in critical condition after they reportedly set themselves on fire inside a locked room, police said on Saturday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred late Friday night in the Padav Garhiya area under Shikohabad police station limits. Earlier on Friday, a resident of Mainpuri, Avnish Kumar Sharma, filed a complaint alleging that Arun Kumar (21), a resident of Mohammadpur Ahir village, had eloped with his 19-year-old niece, Khushi. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Emergency Response
Later that night, police received information via the UP-112 emergency helpline about loud noises coming from a house in the area. When officers arrived at the scene and forced open the door, they found Arun and Khushi lying on the floor with severe burn injuries. Both were immediately taken to a hospital in Shikohabad and later referred to Agra's SN Medical College for advanced treatment.
Medical Condition
Khushi succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Saturday morning, while Arun, who has suffered approximately 70 percent burns, remains in a critical condition, according to a police officer. Authorities have recorded Arun's statement and sent the woman's body for post-mortem examination.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary findings suggest the incident may be linked to a love affair. Police are conducting further investigations to uncover the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the extreme measures sometimes taken in the name of love.
