A tragic incident unfolded in Ningala village of Amreli district on Sunday, where a woman lost her life and her son was brutally assaulted in a confrontation linked to the son's extramarital relationship. The police have booked nine members of two families for offenses including murder, assault, kidnapping, and related charges.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Jitu Bhil, died after being run over during the attack. The complaint was filed at Pipavav police station by her 25-year-old son, Bhavesh Bhil, a farm labourer. Bhavesh named nine individuals in his police complaint, detailing the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
The Relationship and Elopement
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Bhavesh developed a romantic relationship three years ago with Kailash Makwana, who is his wife's maternal cousin. The relationship continued in secret even after Kailash's family discovered it a year ago. About a month ago, the couple eloped and traveled to Porbandar and Junagadh. Following this, Kailash's family lodged a missing person complaint at Savarkundla police station.
The couple later appeared at a police station five days ago, after which Kailash was allegedly taken away by her family. Around 3:30 pm on Sunday, Kailash called Bhavesh from the Mahuva bus stand, claiming she was being harassed by her family and was heading to Rajula.
The Attack
Bhavesh and his mother drove towards Rajula to pick her up but were intercepted near Ningala village on the national highway by Kailash's relatives, who were traveling in a car. The complaint alleges that during the assault, Yogesh Makwana deliberately ran over Jitu with the vehicle, killing her on the spot. Bhavesh was allegedly kidnapped after the attack and taken to a pond in Khared village, where he was beaten with metal rods and a belt. Mahesh Solanki allegedly threatened to kill him if Kailash was not traced.
The assault continued at another location before a passerby alerted the police, leading to Bhavesh's rescue. He was subsequently taken to the Rajula government hospital for treatment.
Legal Action
Based on Bhavesh's complaint, the police have registered a case against nine individuals, including Yogesh Makwana and Mahesh Solanki, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the accused and ascertain further details.
