Woman Maoist with ₹1 lakh bounty surrenders in CG

RAIPUR: A woman Maoist carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh's Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district on Friday, marking another success for the state's rehabilitation efforts.

Surrender Details

The surrendered cadre was identified as Dehki alias Jitti, a member of the Rowghat local organization squad and a native of Munjal village in Kanker district. Police said she was active in the division area and decided to return to the mainstream after being influenced by the district’s 'operation prayas', the state government's rehabilitation policy and regular outreach by police teams.

Background of the Cadre

According to Superintendent of Police Y P Singh, Dehki joined the Maoist organisation in 2010 after coming under its influence. She initially worked in the Madanbada area and later became active in the Marh region under the Rowghat area committee, working with several Maoist cadres. Her involvement spanned over a decade in various capacities within the outlawed group.

Reasons for Surrender

Rajnandgaon range Inspector General Balaji Rao said she surrendered after becoming disillusioned with Maoist ideology, internal differences, neglect within the organisation and atrocities committed against villagers and tribal residents. She also expressed a desire to live a normal life with her family and faith in the Constitution of India. The police have assured her of full support under the rehabilitation scheme.

Government's Rehabilitation Policy

The Chhattisgarh government's 'operation prayas' has been instrumental in encouraging Maoists to surrender. The policy offers financial assistance, vocational training, and security to those who renounce violence. Regular outreach programs by police teams have also helped build trust among the affected communities.

This surrender comes amid ongoing efforts by security forces to curb left-wing extremism in the region. The Maoist insurgency has been a major challenge in Chhattisgarh, particularly in the Bastar division, but recent surrenders indicate a growing trend of disillusionment among cadres.
