Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Announces Priority for Disaster Volunteers in Home Guard Recruitment

In a significant move to bolster public safety and support trained volunteers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Saturday that Aapda Mitras (disaster response volunteers) will be given priority in the upcoming recruitment of 41,424 home guards across the state.

From Voluntary Service to Government Honorarium

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that while Aapda Mitras have been serving on a voluntary basis, their inclusion in the home guard force will ensure they receive a regular honorarium from the government. This initiative aims to provide financial stability to these dedicated volunteers while simultaneously strengthening the state's disaster response capabilities.

"Their experience and ground-level training make them valuable assets for public safety and disaster management," noted Yogi Adityanath, highlighting the critical role these volunteers play during emergencies.

Enhanced Role in Disaster Management

Aapda Mitras are actively involved in rescue and relief operations during various emergencies across Uttar Pradesh, including:

  • Flood response operations
  • Accident rescue missions
  • Other emergency situations requiring immediate intervention

The chief minister stressed that their practical experience in handling real-world disasters makes them particularly well-suited for formal roles within the home guard structure.

Recruitment Benefits for Trained Volunteers

Officials clarified that candidates who have completed the Aapda Mitra training program under the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (UPSDMA) will receive special consideration during the recruitment process. According to established guidelines:

  1. Certificate holders will be granted three additional marks beyond the standard scoring system
  2. This weightage aims to recognize their specialized training and experience
  3. The provision encourages trained disaster response volunteers to pursue government service opportunities

The recruitment initiative represents a dual-purpose strategy: enhancing the state's emergency response infrastructure while providing career pathways for volunteers who have demonstrated commitment to public safety through their disaster management training and field experience.
