Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday distributed land ownership certificates to 1,645 families displaced from Pakistan and 50 families of former servicemen during a special programme in Bijnor. The initiative is expected to benefit more than 12,000 people across the district.
Land Rights for Displaced Families
Addressing a gathering at Alampur Ganwadi village, Adityanath said, “The move marks a long-awaited step towards identity, dignity and self-reliance for families that had been living on allotted land for generations without legal ownership rights.” He added, “Thousands of Hindu and Sikh families faced persecution and displacement during Partition, and the government is now ensuring justice by granting them ownership rights. The remaining eligible families would be covered in the next phase.”
Emphasis on Cow Protection and Social Harmony
Yogi also spoke about cow protection, law and order, and social harmony. Referring to demands by some Muslim clerics to declare the cow the national animal, he said, “The cow is not just an animal; she is our mother.” Warning against cow slaughter, he added that those involved in such activities “will not be spared”.
Referring to a recent incident in Ghaziabad in which a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a friend from a different community, Adityanath said, “Violence or attacks carried out under the guise of friendship would not be tolerated.” He also urged parents to guide their children responsibly, saying “neglect could have long-term consequences for families.”
Welfare Schemes and Artisan Support
During the programme, beneficiaries of various Central and state government welfare schemes received financial assistance. The CM also inaugurated a Common Service Centre for artisans aimed at promoting employment and self-reliance. “The centre would help artisans prepare products for export, and strengthen local industries,” Adityanath said. Noting that Nagina is widely known for its handicrafts, he added that the initiative would help craftsmen access broader markets.
Call for Peace and Development
The CM also paid tribute to the historical and cultural significance of Bijnor and the Vidur Kuti region. Stressing that development schemes were being implemented without discrimination, he called upon citizens to maintain peace, social harmony and respect for the law.
