CM Yogi Adityanath Directs Strict Action on Worker Rights Violations in UP
In a significant move to uphold labor welfare, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued firm directives to state officials, emphasizing that violations of workers' interests will not be tolerated under any circumstances. During a video-conferencing session held on Wednesday evening, which focused on the industrial situation and law and order with particular attention to recent developments in Gautam Budh Nagar, the Chief Minister outlined a comprehensive strategy to protect workers while maintaining industrial peace.
Protecting Worker Rights and Ensuring Dignity
Chief Minister Adityanath stated unequivocally that every worker is entitled to dignified working conditions, full and timely payment of wages, and all statutory benefits as per the law. He warned that the strictest legal action would be taken against those found guilty of infringing upon these fundamental rights. "The state government is committed to safeguarding the interests of our workforce, and any attempt to exploit workers will be met with severe consequences," he asserted during the meeting.
Zero Tolerance for Industrial Unrest and Misinformation
Adityanath directed officials to adopt a 'zero tolerance' policy against organizations, anarchic elements, and individuals who incite workers or spread rumors to create disturbances. He emphasized the need for immediate identification and punitive action against those who are not genuine workers but are involved in spreading industrial unrest or causing disorder. "Such elements must be exposed, and where necessary, their photographs should be displayed in public places to inform the general public about the actual situation and reveal who is behind conspiracies to obstruct the state's industrial development," he added.
The Chief Minister also issued instructions for continuous monitoring of misleading information, rumors, and misinformation on social media platforms. He stressed that swift identification and strict legal action against the guilty are essential to control any potential confusion or unrest at the very outset.
Addressing Management Complaints and Wage Revisions
During the meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that the recent decision to increase workers' wages had generated satisfaction among the labor force, and the situation in Gautam Budh Nagar was largely returning to normal. However, in response to management-related complaints from some industrial units, Adityanath directed that a third-party survey be conducted to impartially assess the actual causes of problems and ensure effective solutions.
He further mandated that the benefits of the revised wages must reach all workers starting from April 1, ensuring timely implementation of the wage hike.
Investigating Manpower Supply Agencies and Enhancing Grievance Redressal
Taking seriously the complaints of possible irregularities in manpower supply agencies, the Chief Minister directed a special investigation committee, constituted under the chairmanship of the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IIDC) along with the labor department, to conduct a comprehensive and thorough investigation of all such agencies in the state. The investigation will include a detailed examination of:
- The actual number of workers employed
- Payments received from industrial units
- Actual payments being made to workers
- The ground reality of ESI, insurance, and other facilities
This initiative aims to effectively curb any form of exploitation and ensure transparency in labor supply chains.
Additionally, Adityanath emphasized the establishment of robust and active grievance cells in all government and private industrial units. These cells are to resolve workers' complaints in a transparent, time-bound, and impartial manner, enhancing trust and accountability.
Improving Housing and Social Welfare for Workers
The Chief Minister directed all industrial development authorities to prepare and present a detailed action plan at the earliest for the construction of dormitories and the implementation of affordable and accessible housing schemes for workers in industrial areas. He remarked that development authorities should not limit themselves to revenue generation alone but must also effectively discharge their social responsibilities towards the workforce.
Furthermore, where workers' wages are being directly transferred to bank accounts, coordination should be established with banks to ensure safety insurance for circumstances such as accidents and untimely death. Special priority should also be given to essential facilities, including education for workers' children, health services, and medical insurance, to promote overall well-being.
Maintaining Industrial Harmony and Vigilance
To foster a balanced and positive industrial environment, Adityanath instructed the industrial development authorities of all districts to maintain continuous dialogue with entrepreneurs and the management of industrial units. This proactive approach is intended to resolve problems in a timely manner and prevent escalations.
Directing police and administrative officers to exercise special vigilance, the Chief Minister stated that no anarchic element should be able to enter industrial units under the guise of being workers. Dialogue should be established only with genuine workers, and it must be ensured that all industrial units in the state continue to operate smoothly without disruptions.
This series of directives underscores the Uttar Pradesh government's commitment to protecting worker rights while ensuring industrial stability and growth across the state.
