In a significant move honoring the sacrifice of police personnel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced sweeping benefits for families of martyrs and Agniveers during the Police Commemoration Day ceremony in Lucknow on Monday.
Special Provisions for Martyrs' Families
The Chief Minister declared that children of police martyrs will receive age relaxation when applying for the Agniveer scheme, ensuring they face no barriers in serving the nation following their parents' footsteps.
"The state government stands firmly with the families of our brave police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice," Adityanath stated during the emotional ceremony at the Police Memorial.
Reservation Benefits for Agniveers
In a landmark decision that will impact thousands of service personnel, the CM announced that Agniveers completing their four-year service tenure will now receive 10% reservation in police recruitment within Uttar Pradesh.
This strategic move aims to provide a secure career path for trained military personnel transitioning to civilian life while strengthening the state's police forces with experienced candidates.
Tribute to Fallen Heroes
The solemn event saw the Chief Minister paying heartfelt tributes to 1,874 police personnel who sacrificed their lives nationwide between September 2022 and August 2023. The ceremony was attended by senior police officials, family members of martyrs, and serving personnel.
"Our police force works tirelessly to maintain law and order, often putting their lives at risk. We must ensure their families are cared for and their service is never forgotten," Adityanath emphasized.
Strengthening Security Infrastructure
The announcements come as part of the state government's broader initiative to bolster security mechanisms and support systems for law enforcement personnel. The dual benefits for both martyrs' families and ex-Agniveers represent a comprehensive approach to honoring service and sacrifice.
These measures are expected to significantly boost morale within the police force while providing tangible support to those who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.
