In a significant push towards modernizing law enforcement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a crucial two-day conference for senior police officers in Lucknow on Saturday. The event, marking a shift from the traditional annual Police Week, was centered on shaping a future-ready police force for the state.
Launch of AI-Powered YAKSH App
The highlight of the inaugural day was the launch of the "YAKSH" application, a digital tool developed using Artificial Intelligence and big data analytics. Officials described YAKSH as a digital version of the traditional beat book, designed to maintain comprehensive data on crimes, criminals, and sensitive areas.
The app is expected to revolutionize ground-level policing by simplifying the daily work of beat personnel. Key features include:
- Station-wise offender databases
- Beat-level verification systems
- AI-based suspect identification
- Voice search functionality
- Gang-link analysis tools
- Movement alerts for known criminals
Focus on Strategic Policing Challenges
The conference, titled "Police Manthan," aims to foster outcome-oriented brainstorming. Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna stated that the objective is to strengthen people-centric policing, develop a technology-based modern system, and ensure swift action against crime.
Over the two days, officers will participate in 11 thematic sessions addressing a wide spectrum of challenges. The first day saw detailed presentations on:
- Beat policing and community engagement
- Technology-driven initiatives for crime prevention
- Best practices from across districts
Discussions specifically covered cybercrime, human trafficking, and crimes against women and children. Additional Director General of Police Padmaja Chauhan presented on initiatives like Mission Shakti centres, awareness programmes, and family dispute resolution clinics.
Tools for Efficiency and Accountability
Another major technological introduction was the "Smart SHO Dashboard," presented by a senior officer. This platform will allow Station House Officers (SHOs) to monitor complaints, crimes, and staff performance on a single interface.
Officials believe this dashboard will improve grievance redressal, reduce pendency of cases, enhance personnel accountability, and make traffic management and crime monitoring more effective. Additional presentations included the Bahu-Beti Sammelan initiative by ADG Gorakhpur Zone Ashok Mutha Jain and deliberations on police station management and upgradation.
The Chief Minister, who was accorded a traditional guard of honour upon arrival, will remain present for both days of the session. The conference, which concludes on Sunday, is set to define the strategic priorities and future roadmap for policing in Uttar Pradesh, with a clear emphasis on integrating cutting-edge technology into the core of law enforcement.
