Youth Drowns at Bamaniyakund Waterfall Near Mhow

An 18-year-old youth from Indore drowned at Bamaniyakund waterfall, located approximately 15 kilometers from Mhow, on Sunday evening. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of the popular picnic spot, which has witnessed multiple drowning incidents in the past.

Incident Details

According to Badgonda police station in-charge Prakash Waskale, the victim, identified as Akash, a resident of Malviya Nagar in Indore, had visited Bamaniyakund on Sunday afternoon with four friends for a picnic. While bathing in the waterbody, Akash slipped into a deep section and was unable to swim back to safety.

His friends immediately raised an alarm upon noticing him drowning. Residents of the nearby Badiya village, situated about 1.5 kilometers from the spot, rushed to assist. Some villagers bravely jumped into the water to search for Akash.

Devendra Tomar, a villager who participated in the rescue attempt, told TOI, "We could not locate Akash, and further search became difficult due to darkness. He may have become trapped in an underwater cavity."

Rescue Operations

Police were promptly informed about the incident. Waskale stated that a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was called to the scene. However, the rescue and search operation had to be halted due to nightfall and is scheduled to resume on Monday morning.

Local villagers have expressed concern over the recurring tragedies at Bamaniyakund, noting that such drowning incidents occur multiple times every year. They urge authorities to implement safety measures to prevent future accidents.
