YSRCP Calls for Immediate Resignation of TDP MP Over Drug Allegations

In a significant political development, the YSRCP has demanded the immediate resignation of Putha Mahesh Yadav, the TDP Member of Parliament from Eluru, following confirmation from tests that he consumed drugs. The party has also called for his suspension from the TDP, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for accountability among public representatives.

Party Leaders Criticize TDP's Handling of the Issue

Addressing the media on Sunday, T J R Sudhakar Babu, the president of the YSRCP's SC Cell and a former MLA, stated that the allegations against Mahesh Yadav were confirmed by Telangana police. He emphasized that the TDP leadership must act swiftly to compel the MP to resign from his parliamentary position. "If the TDP leadership is truly committed to making Andhra Pradesh a drug-free state, party chief N Chandrababu Naidu should have suspended the MP by now," Sudhakar Babu asserted.

He further alleged that the TDP has long ignored instances of drug and ganja use among its lower-level leaders and workers. "Now a sitting MP of the party was caught by the Telangana Eagle team police for drug use. Despite such a serious incident, the TDP leadership is trying to handle the matter quietly," he said, criticizing what he described as the party's silence on the issue.

Former Ministers Demand Transparent Investigation

Former minister Kurasala Kannababu highlighted that the allegations against a sitting MP are a matter of grave concern and called for a transparent investigation. He stressed that public representatives must maintain high standards of conduct, and any deviation should be dealt with strictly to uphold public trust.

Another former minister, Karumuri Nageswara Rao, echoed these sentiments, stating that those holding responsible positions should set a positive example for society. He demanded that strict action be taken to ensure such incidents do not send the wrong message to the youth, who look up to political figures for guidance.

Concerns Over Political Influence and Youth Impact

Former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy urged authorities not to dilute the case, emphasizing that the spread of drugs poses a serious threat to the younger generation. He warned that political influence should not be allowed to obstruct the investigation, as it could undermine justice and public safety.

Reddy argued that Mahesh Yadav has no moral right to continue as an MP after being allegedly caught consuming drugs. "The MP should immediately resign and face the investigation. If Chandrababu Naidu has any moral responsibility, he should suspend Mahesh Yadav from the party without delay," he stated. He further alleged that protecting those accused in drug-related cases would send a dangerous signal to society and could encourage youth to drift towards substance abuse, exacerbating social issues.

The YSRCP's demands underscore a growing political confrontation in Andhra Pradesh, with the party leveraging this incident to criticize the TDP's governance and ethical standards. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the TDP leadership will respond to these calls for action and whether further investigations will be initiated to address the allegations comprehensively.
