Ahmedabad Begins Major Infrastructure Push for Commonwealth Games 2030
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has initiated significant infrastructure development work in preparation for the city's hosting of the Commonwealth Games in 2030. The West Zone estate TDO department has launched a project to construct a 24.3-metre-wide road near the Sabarmati toll naka, a move that has already resulted in the demolition of multiple structures in the Baldevnagar slums area.
Demolition Drive Under Police Protection
In a major clearance operation conducted on Saturday, authorities dismantled 22 residential and commercial buildings that stood in the path of the proposed road development. The demolition was carried out with substantial police presence to maintain order, while the health and fire departments provided necessary support throughout the operation.
The removal of homes and businesses in Baldevnagar represents the initial phase of Ahmedabad's ambitious infrastructure upgrade planned around the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. Local residents and business owners have been affected by this development, which city officials deem essential for the city's transformation ahead of the international sporting event.
Comprehensive Road Network Development Around Stadium
Simultaneously, the AMC has commenced work on opening approved roads in the vicinity of the Narendra Modi Stadium, which will serve as a key venue during the Commonwealth Games. The development is part of the larger Sardar Patel Sports Enclave project envisioned for the areas surrounding the world-class stadium.
Municipal authorities are focusing on both creating new road connections and clearing existing pathways to significantly improve connectivity to the sports enclave. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure smooth transportation for athletes, officials, and spectators during the major international event scheduled for 2030.
The infrastructure development represents one of the earliest concrete steps taken by Ahmedabad toward preparing for the Commonwealth Games, positioning the city to meet international standards in sports infrastructure and urban connectivity.
