Ahmedabad's selection as host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games represents a monumental leap in India's journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, according to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The announcement came during his address at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry annual gathering on Saturday.
Gujarat's Remarkable Transformation
Chief Minister Patel highlighted the state's dramatic evolution in sports infrastructure, noting that Gujarat had virtually no sports facilities two decades ago. The confirmation of Ahmedabad as Commonwealth Games host signals how rapidly the state has transformed its capabilities and global standing.
"The doors are now opening for the 2036 Olympics," Patel told industry leaders, emphasizing that the 2030 Games would significantly strengthen India's long-term international sports ambitions. The timing aligns perfectly with Gujarat's 75th anniversary in 2035, promising to showcase the state's development on a global platform.
Industrial Expansion and Economic Vision
Addressing industrialists and business leaders at the GCCI event, the Chief Minister outlined Gujarat's upcoming industrial expansion and its crucial role in national growth. He expressed confidence that global investors continue to believe in Gujarat's potential and that the state would not disappoint them.
Patel specifically highlighted Gujarat's leadership position in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and new-age industrial sectors. These emerging fields represent key growth areas that will drive both state and national economic development in the coming decades.
Swadeshi Movement and Sector Collaboration
The Chief Minister underscored the importance of the 'swadeshi' approach in building economic strength, urging industries to maintain their support for Gujarat's development trajectory. His comments emphasized self-reliance and domestic capability building as fundamental to long-term success.
GCCI president Sandeep Engineer reported significant progress in addressing industry concerns, revealing that the chamber raised over 100 industry issues with the government during the year, with most receiving positive action. Engineer also announced a five-year memorandum of understanding covering four major upcoming events: GATE 2026, GREENS, The Grazer Fest, and Farm to Fashion.
These initiatives aim to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and position Gujarat as a hub for innovation and industrial excellence. The developments signal a new era of public-private partnership that will support both the Commonwealth Games preparation and broader economic objectives.
