The historic city of Alwar in Rajasthan witnessed a significant step towards wildlife conservation and fitness on Wednesday. The pre-launch event for the much-anticipated International Tiger Marathon was successfully organized at Mahalchauk, setting the stage for the main event scheduled for February 8.
Stars and Ministers Flag Off the Initiative
The event saw the presence of key dignitaries who are championing the cause. Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda, serving as the brand ambassador for the marathon, was joined by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Rajasthan's Forest Minister Sanjay Sharma. Together, they officially launched the specially designed t-shirts and medals for the participants, marking a formal commencement of the proceedings.
A Marathon with a Global Conservation Mission
Addressing the gathering, Randeep Hooda expressed immense pride, highlighting that this is the first marathon in the world dedicated specifically to tiger conservation. He emphasized the unique setting of the event, noting that the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar is one of a kind. Hooda stated that the marathon serves a dual purpose: inspiring common people towards fitness and directly contributing to the vital cause of protecting tigers.
He also revealed the international scale of the event, confirming that elite runners from several countries, including South Africa, Kenya, and Ethiopia, are expected to participate. This global participation, he believes, will put Alwar firmly on the international map as a destination committed to ecological preservation.
Government Backing for a Greener Future
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav elaborated on the core objectives behind organizing this unique sporting event. He clarified that the primary aim is to save tigers and raise public awareness about environmental conservation. The marathon is envisioned as a massive community movement.
Yadav provided impressive participation estimates, stating that around 25,000 youth, children, and adults are expected to run in the event. He further added that a large number of foreign guests are also likely to attend, underscoring the international interest and solidarity for the cause.
This initiative represents a powerful fusion of sports, community health, and environmental activism, positioning Alwar as a pioneer in hosting a global event with conservation at its heart.
