Bangladesh women's cricketers Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana have been fined for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during their recent match against India. The incident occurred during the third ODI of the series in Mirpur, where both players were found guilty of violating Level 1 breaches of the code.
Details of the Breach
Nahida Akter, the left-arm spinner, was fined 25% of her match fee for using inappropriate language during the match. Sarmin Sultana, the opening batter, was fined 15% of her match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's decision. Both players accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Neeyamur Rashid, avoiding formal hearings.
Impact on the Series
The fines come as Bangladesh women's team suffered a 3-0 series whitewash against India. Despite the disciplinary issues, the team showed glimpses of promise but failed to capitalize on key moments. The ICC's strict enforcement of the code aims to maintain discipline and sportsmanship in the sport.
This is not the first time Bangladeshi players have faced fines for conduct breaches. In 2022, several players were penalized for similar offenses during the Asia Cup. The ICC continues to emphasize the importance of respecting umpires and opponents.
