Boban Marjanovic's Unlikely College Band Stint Highlights Post-NBA Journey
Serbian basketball player Boban Marjanovic, a former NBA star, recently added a whimsical chapter to his post-basketball life by joining a college pep band. During a game at the McKale Memorial Center on Wednesday, where the No. 4 University of Arizona Wildcats hosted BYU, Marjanovic was seen enthusiastically playing the triangle while seated with the university's band.
A Surprising Scene in Arizona
Dressed in Arizona's team colors and brandishing the triangle instrument, Marjanovic stood out in the crowd as he immersed himself in the college atmosphere. This unexpected moment came as he continues to explore new avenues after his NBA career, which spanned nine years and included stints with teams like the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.
Marjanovic shared his thoughts on the experience, saying, "We just recently finished the Robin Hood TV series. It's fun… Of course, my role is not huge, but I really have fun to be in that TV show where they have good ratings and good reputation so far." This appearance is part of a broader trend of him engaging with college sports, having previously sat with student sections at games involving Villanova and UConn.
Pursuing Hollywood Dreams
Beyond the basketball court, Marjanovic has been actively building an acting career, with seven film and television appearances since 2019, including a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2. In a recent interview with Men's Journal, the 37-year-old expressed ambitious hopes for his on-screen future.
He revealed, "I hope somebody, a producer, calls me and says, 'Hey, Boban, we want you. We want you in the Game of Thrones. We want you to be in a James Bond movie. We want you to be in a Marvel movie. We want you to be a superhero, you know?'" This highlights his desire to transition from sports to larger roles in entertainment.
Connecting with Fans and Reflecting on NBA Days
Marjanovic's recent activities have also included fan interactions, such as meeting supporters at the AT&T Dunk District in Los Angeles during the NBA All-Star Game weekend. For him, these moments are deeply meaningful, especially reconnecting with fans from his time with the Clippers.
He reflected, "You know, it's so amazing. To get out to my fans, to be around the people, to remember how my days were when I played for the Clippers… Of course, it's my family. I lived here for two years. It's been amazing to be part of all this." This sentiment underscores the personal connections he values beyond his professional achievements.
Unclear Motives Behind College Visits
While Marjanovic seems to be enjoying his time off from the NBA, it remains uncertain whether his college game appearances are purely for fun or part of a larger project, such as a documentary or online content. His involvement has ranged from playing instruments to even earning a byline in a school newspaper during a UConn women's game.
Currently, Marjanovic is performing professionally in Slovenia, but fans can also spot him in two episodes of MGM+'s new Robin Hood series, where he plays the character Drago. This blend of sports, entertainment, and fan engagement paints a vivid picture of his evolving post-NBA path.
