Ex-NFL Player Darron Lee Faces Murder Charges in Girlfriend's Death
Darron Lee, a former linebacker for the New York Jets, has been charged with first-degree murder following the brutal death of his girlfriend, Gabriella Carvalho Perpetuo. The incident occurred last month at the home they rented together in Tennessee, where Perpetuo was found with severe injuries.
Horrifying Details Emerge in Court Hearing
During a preliminary hearing at Hamilton Court, prosecutors disclosed chilling evidence, including text messages where Lee consulted ChatGPT about injuries. He allegedly asked the AI if certain wounds could resemble those from a fall, in an attempt to cover up the crime.
In the exchanges, Lee referenced a fictional woman named "Allie" and claimed Perpetuo had inflicted injuries on herself. He wrote, "Fiancée did her crazy thing again and now she’s messed up, I wake up and she has two swollen eyes (I didn’t do anything, self inflicted) she stabbed herself, silt her eye? Idk but she isn’t waking up or responding, what do I do?"
When ChatGPT responded with advice on handling the situation, Lee replied, "doesn’t want to," indicating a refusal to seek help.
Lee's Deception and Arrest
Upon authorities arriving at the scene, Lee initially lied, stating that Perpetuo had tripped in the shower. However, detectives quickly noted blood throughout the home and injuries inconsistent with a simple fall. This led to his immediate arrest on murder charges.
Experts suggest Lee could face the death penalty due to the brutal nature of the crime, though no official confirmation has been made as he remains in custody.
Background and Prior Allegations
The couple had moved into the rented home just 10 days before Perpetuo's death. Prior to this incident, other women had accused Lee of domestic violence, though the exact motive for the murder remains unclear.
This case highlights a disturbing use of technology in criminal activities and raises questions about domestic abuse in professional sports. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
