Ghaziabad Prepares for Inaugural Night Heritage Run in Uttar Pradesh

The district administration of Ghaziabad has officially announced plans to organize the IndianOil Ghaziabad Heritage Run 2026, scheduled for April 11. This event is set to make history as the first night heritage run in the state of Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in the region's sporting and cultural calendar.

Event Details and Route Highlights

Officials have confirmed that the run will serve as a flagship initiative aimed at promoting fitness and fostering community participation. Participants will embark on a unique journey along the city's elevated road, passing through the expansive 156-acre City Forest. The district administration is directly overseeing all aspects of planning and execution to ensure a seamless experience.

Chief Development Officer Abhinav Gopal emphasized the administration's commitment to supporting the event by encouraging large-scale participation and implementing measures for clean roads and effective traffic management along the designated route. He stated, "As this is a heritage run, we plan to showcase Ghaziabad’s historical landmarks and legacy along the route. This will include highlighting old industrial sites and structures such as Dasna Gate, which dates back to the British era, among others, to promote the city’s heritage."

The run is designed to be inclusive, featuring multiple categories to accommodate participants of all ages and abilities:

  • 21km half marathon
  • 10km race
  • 5km and 3km walkathons
  • 2km wheelchair race

Organizers have set an ambitious target of attracting over 10,000 participants and have announced a substantial prize pool of approximately Rs 29 lakh. The event is expected to draw national and international athletes, adding a competitive edge to the proceedings. Special categories have been introduced to honor police, armed forces, and paramilitary personnel, further broadening the event's appeal.
