Karnataka Dominates Day 3 of Khelo India Tribal Games with 13 Gold Medals

The third day of the Khelo India Tribal Games, held at the international swimming pool in Raipur on Friday, saw Karnataka solidify its position at the top of the medal tally. The state became the first to cross the 10-gold mark, finishing the day with an impressive haul of 13 gold, five silver, and one bronze medal. All of Karnataka's gold medals were secured in swimming events, highlighting their aquatic prowess.

Swimming Stars Shine Bright

Karnataka swimmer Manikanta L continued his remarkable performance, adding two gold medals and one silver to his collection on Friday. With a personal tally of eight gold medals, he is currently the most successful athlete in the competition. His victories included gold in both the men's 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly events.

Other notable performances in swimming included Dhuneesh N from Karnataka winning gold in the 50m freestyle, and Meghanjali from Karnataka taking gold in the women's 50m backstroke, ahead of Chhattisgarh's Anushka Bhagat who claimed silver.

Chhattisgarh's Medal Haul

Host state Chhattisgarh bagged three medals on Day 3, bringing their total to six medals, which ties them for seventh place with Tripura. Their medals include three silver and three bronze. On Friday, Chhattisgarh athletes won one silver and two bronze medals.

Anushka Bhagat earned her third silver of the tournament in the women's 50m backstroke. Nikhil Jalko contributed a bronze in the men's 50m breaststroke, while Nyasa Paikra added another bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Other State Performances

Odisha maintained the second position with six gold, two silver, and nine bronze medals. Assam followed in third place with two gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.

Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh celebrated their first gold medals of the meet on Day 3. Tanvi Dhurve of Maharashtra won gold in the women's 100m butterfly. For Arunachal Pradesh, Anai Wangsu claimed gold in the 58 kg weightlifting category, while Richin Chongruju took the top spot in the 79 kg category.

Weightlifting Highlights

In weightlifting, Anai Wangsu of Arunachal Pradesh lifted 169 kg for gold in the 58 kg category. Odisha's Bidu Smita Bhoi won the 63 kg category with a 195 kg lift. In the men's events, MH Silvan Beharothatlo of Mizoram secured gold in the 71 kg category, and Richin Chongruju of Arunachal Pradesh led the 79 kg category.

The competition continues to showcase emerging talent from tribal communities across India, with Karnataka setting a high benchmark in swimming and other states making significant strides in various disciplines.
