KIUG 2025: Four Athletics Meet Records Broken in Jaipur

The second day of athletics at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) Rajasthan 2025 witnessed an electrifying display of talent as four meet records were shattered at the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday. The historic venue saw athletes from Chandigarh University, Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, and Lovely Professional University etch their names into the KIUG annals with stellar performances.

A Day of Record-Breaking Feats

The morning session set the tone with Rahul from Chandigarh University dominating the men's 20km race walk from start to finish. He clocked an impressive 1:25:43.00, demolishing the previous record of 1:26:44.00 set by Akshdeep Singh in 2022. Suraj Yadav of Jannayak Chandrashekhar University secured the silver medal.

Later, in a unique and dominant performance, Ruchir Mori of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University blazed through the men's 400m hurdles in 51.00 seconds. He bettered the old mark of 51.76s. Since he was the sole competitor in the event, he set the new benchmark but, as per competition rules, was not awarded a gold medal.

The women's events were equally spectacular. Pooja of Lovely Professional University soared to a new meet record in the high jump, clearing 1.77 meters. This effort improved upon the previous record by a full meter. Not to be outdone, Deepika from Chandigarh University launched the javelin to a distance of 55.53 meters, claiming gold and breaking the earlier record held by Jyoti.

Chandigarh University Extends Dominance

Defending champions Chandigarh University continued their formidable run in the Games, adding 11 gold medals to their tally on Tuesday alone. Seven of these golds came from a commanding performance in Canoe & Kayaking events. This haul propelled their total gold medal count to 22, strengthening their position at the top.

Lovely Professional University also bolstered its standing, winning two gold medals in athletics to consolidate their third spot with a total of 23 gold medals.

Highlights from Other Disciplines
