Gumla: A tragic incident occurred in Sukurhutu village under Gumla district on Saturday when a class 7 student lost his life and his younger brother sustained injuries after being struck by lightning. The deceased, identified as Aman Mahto, 13, and his brother Amit Mahto, 11, were both students of Government Middle School, Sukurhutu. On Sunday, the body of Aman was sent to Sadar Hospital, Gumla, for post-mortem examination.
Sequence of Events
According to reports, the two brothers had gone to graze goats in a nearby field. When it started raining, they began returning home while driving their goats. As the rain intensified, they sought shelter under a tree. Suddenly, a thunderbolt struck them, causing severe injuries.
Manuel Kujur, the headmaster in-charge of Sukurhutu school, stated, "Both were admitted to the local community health centre (CHC) in Bharno. The attending doctors referred Aman to Rims, Ranchi, while Amit received treatment there. Unfortunately, on the way to Rims, Aman collapsed near Lalgutwa, a suburb of Ranchi. Amit recovered and was discharged from the CHC."
Official Statement
The officer in-charge (OC) of Bharno police station, Santosh Kumar Singh, confirmed, "Critically injured Aman died en route to Ranchi. The other child is now safe."
