They organized pizza sales every Friday, conducted jersey raffles, and transformed their gym into an entertainment stage by hosting a pie-throwing event targeting six teachers and a volunteer. One of the student leaders, Moossa Choulli, captured the victory moment perfectly: "We were so surprised to win it. But, we were so happy as soon as we got it." The excitement was immediate and authentic, reflecting the genuine investment students had made in their cause.
Another student organizer, Atharv Keshri, described the atmosphere during the memorable pie-throwing fundraiser: "It felt great. Everyone was watching, yelling after each pie was thrown. It was an awesome experience." This same vibrant energy carried forward into Tuesday's special assembly, where approximately 600 students packed the gymnasium to ask questions and listen attentively.
McDavid's Humble Reframing of the Achievement
McDavid consciously avoided positioning himself as the primary reward. Instead, he reframed the moment with clarity and humility that resonated deeply. "Kids helping kids, it's a special thing," he emphasized. "I hope the kids take away the power of community and what together we can all do to help one another."
Later, he expanded on his perspective regarding his role in the fundraiser: "The prize really is how many people that this money is going to help, and all the money that's raised and all the families that will get support. So that really is the prize. But if I can be the little cherry on top for some of these schools and some of these kids, then that's great."
