MS Dhoni Watches IND-ENG 3rd T20I on 45th Birthday; India Lose

Dhoni's Presence and India's Historic Defeat

Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni marked his 45th birthday on Tuesday by attending the third T20I between India and England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. However, the occasion was soured as Team India suffered a crushing 125-run defeat, their largest loss in T20Is by runs. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted on X: "Birthday Boy in the house. Drop your wishes for the great @msdhoni."

England's Dominant Bowling Performance

England's pace duo Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue dismantled India's batting lineup, bowling them out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs. Tongue recorded figures of 4/28, while Archer took 3/29, earning the Player of the Match award. Spinner Adil Rashid also claimed two wickets, reaching 468 international wickets and overtaking Darren Gough (466) to become England's fourth-highest international wicket-taker. Rashid also surpassed New Zealand's Ish Sodhi (165) to become the second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 166 wickets, behind Afghanistan's Rashid Khan (193).

Match Summary: England's Innings

India won the toss and elected to field first. Openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler added 43 runs before Buttler was dismissed for 36 off 21 balls by pacer Prince Yadav. Salt anchored the innings with 70 off 44 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Sam Curran's unbeaten 41 off 24 balls and a quick 14 from Will Jacks propelled England to 201/7 in 20 overs. Prince (2/30) and Harshit Rana (2/40) were the pick of India's bowlers.

India's Batting Collapse

In response, India started aggressively with Abhishek Sharma (10 off 7) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (13 off 5) hitting sixes, but both fell early, reducing India to 29/2. The innings never recovered, with India slumping to 52/5 within the powerplay. Only Ishan Kishan (13) and Axar Patel (10) reached double figures as India were all out for 76, their second-lowest total in T20Is after 74 against Australia in 2008.

Series Context and India's Winless Streak

With this victory, England took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, the first match having been washed out. India, the T20 world champions, have now lost four matches and faced one no result since winning the T20 World Cup earlier this year—their longest winless streak in T20Is. India is yet to win a match under new captain Shreyas Iyer, and their best possible series result is a draw.
