India is set to host 11 major international sporting events over the next six months, with the sports ministry assuring that infrastructure will be of the highest standard. This announcement comes as part of a broader push to establish India as a global sports destination.
Upcoming Events and Preparations
The events include high-profile tournaments in table tennis and badminton, among other disciplines. The sports ministry has stated that all venues will be upgraded to meet international standards, with a focus on accessibility, security, and athlete comfort. Officials have been directed to ensure that no logistical gaps remain.
Hosting Rights for 2027-2028
In addition to the immediate schedule, India has secured hosting rights for 19 international sporting competitions scheduled for 2027 and 2028. This long-term vision aims to boost sports tourism and create a legacy of world-class facilities across the country.
According to a ministry spokesperson, the government is committed to delivering “flawless organization” for every event. The spokesperson added that “India’s capability to host large-scale events has been proven, and we will continue to raise the bar.”
Impact on Sports Ecosystem
The influx of events is expected to provide a major boost to local economies, create jobs, and inspire young athletes. The ministry is also working with state governments to ensure that infrastructure development benefits grassroots sports programs.
