The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has officially confirmed the participation of Pakistan in the prestigious AVC Men's Cup 2026, scheduled to be held at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad from June 20 to 28. This announcement comes as part of the finalization of all twelve competing teams for the tournament.
AVC President Confirms Full Team Participation
AVC President Ramon Suzara made the confirmation on Friday, stating that all participating nations have submitted their entries and he anticipates no issues with team participation. "All the teams have confirmed already. There should be no conflict. Everybody's here to play the best of volleyball," Suzara declared during the announcement in Ahmedabad.
Suzara expressed particular surprise at Pakistan's recent performance in international volleyball, noting their impressive showing in the previous edition of the tournament. "I was surprised by the way they played last year, finishing runners-up to Bahrain," the AVC president added, highlighting Pakistan's unexpected rise in Asian volleyball rankings.
Tournament Draw and Pool Allocations
The official draw ceremony was conducted in Ahmedabad with Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) assistant director Nilofar Sheikh in attendance. The twelve confirmed teams have been strategically divided into two competitive pools:
- Pool A: Host nation India, Australia, defending champions Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, and New Zealand
- Pool B: Last edition runners-up Pakistan, former champions Thailand, Qatar, Korea, Indonesia, and Oman
Addressing Regional Concerns and Team Preparations
When questioned about potential impacts from ongoing conflicts in West Asia on team participation, President Suzara expressed optimism that the situation would improve before the tournament begins. He provided updates on several teams' preparation status, revealing that the Iranian team is currently training in the northern part of their country, while both Bahrain and Qatar have already initiated their tournament preparations.
