In an inspiring development for para-sports in Tamil Nadu, a 50-year-old visually impaired para-athlete from Ariyalur district has been appointed as a visiting coach to train para-athletes across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin formally handed over the appointment order to her on Friday in Trichy, marking a significant step in supporting athletes with disabilities.

Overcoming Adversity: Sivagami's Journey

K Sivagami, a resident of Jayankondam, has faced immense challenges from a young age. She lost her parents early in life, and all five of her siblings are also visually impaired since birth. Despite these hardships, Sivagami demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination.

She excelled in para-athletics, specializing in shot put and discus throw events. Her dedication led to winning medals at national-level competitions, and she proudly represented India in both Asian and international para-sports events. This background makes her an ideal candidate to mentor and train upcoming para-athletes.

Government Intervention and Appointment

Recently, Sivagami met with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, where she shared her family's difficult circumstances and requested job assistance. Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Udhayanidhi directed the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority to provide suitable employment for Sivagami without any delay.

The appointment as a visiting coach was swiftly processed, and Udhayanidhi personally handed over the appointment letter to her in Trichy on Friday. This move highlights the state government's commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusivity in sports.

Impact on Para-Sports in Tamil Nadu

Sivagami's appointment is expected to have a positive impact on para-sports development in Tamil Nadu. As a visiting coach, she will bring her firsthand experience and expertise to train and inspire other para-athletes. Her story serves as a powerful example of overcoming obstacles and achieving success against all odds.

This initiative not only provides Sivagami with a stable livelihood but also enriches the coaching landscape for para-athletes in the state. It underscores the importance of creating opportunities for talented individuals, regardless of their physical challenges, and fostering a supportive environment for sports excellence.
