President's Trophy & CBL Final on Ashtamudi Lake Saturday

Kollam is gearing up for a spectacular display of traditional sporting prowess as the prestigious President's Trophy Vallamkali and the grand finale of the Champions Boat League (CBL) are set to take place this Saturday. The iconic Ashtamudi Lake will serve as the vibrant venue for this high-octane event, promising a thrilling spectacle for spectators.

A Premier Showdown on Historic Waters

The heart of the competition will be a fiercely contested 1,100-meter race. The course has been meticulously charted, starting from a point near the historic Thevally Palace and culminating at the KSRTC boat jetty. To ensure fairness and precision in what are often nail-bitingly close finishes, organizers will deploy advanced timing technology to deliver accurate and undisputed results.

A total of nine powerful snake boats (chundan vallams), each representing different regions and teams, will participate in the final showdown. These long, canoe-style boats, rowed by dozens of synchronized oarsmen, are a quintessential part of Kerala's cultural and sporting heritage.

Ensuring a Flawless Event

In preparation for the major event, a review meeting was chaired by District Collector N Devidas. During the meeting, Finance Minister K N Balagopal directed officials to leave no stone unturned in guaranteeing the smooth and successful conduct of the races. The directives covered all aspects, including crowd management, security, logistics, and participant facilities.

More Than Just a Race: A Cultural Extravaganza

Understanding that the event is a major tourist and cultural draw, the organizers have planned a series of accompanying programs. Alongside the main races, cultural programmes and various sports events will be organized. These additions aim to promote the race to a wider audience, enhance the festive atmosphere on the banks of Ashtamudi, and provide holistic entertainment for families and visitors attending the finale.

The convergence of the President's Trophy and the Champions Boat League final represents a peak moment in Kerala's sporting calendar. It not only highlights the competitive spirit and teamwork inherent in snake boat racing but also significantly boosts local tourism and celebrates a cherished tradition on a grand stage.
