Quadruple Amputee Cornhole Player Dayton Webber Charged with Murder in Maryland Shooting
Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old professional cornhole player who became a quadruple amputee as an infant, is now at the center of a shocking murder investigation in Maryland. According to authorities, Webber allegedly shot and killed another man inside his car during a heated argument, raising profound questions about the circumstances and his ability to handle firearms despite his severe physical limitations.
The Fatal Incident in La Plata
The Charles County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells. Both men were acquaintances traveling together in a Tesla SUV in La Plata, Maryland, when their journey turned violent. Investigators believe an argument erupted during the ride, leading Webber to allegedly fire a gunshot inside the vehicle.
After the shooting, Webber reportedly stopped the car and asked two backseat passengers to help remove Wells' body. When they refused and fled, calling police, Webber drove away with Wells still inside. Authorities later discovered Wells' body in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Police located Webber at a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, and he is currently awaiting extradition back to Maryland. He faces serious charges including first- and second-degree murder. Diane Richardson, a spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff's Office, told Fox5DC that while the investigation remains in early stages, there is currently no indication of additional suspects involved in the crime.
Shocking Videos Surface Online
As news of the case spread, disturbing videos from 2024 began circulating online, showing Webber's remarkable ability to handle firearms despite being a quadruple amputee. One video depicts him in an open field, using his upper arms to insert a magazine into a handgun, carefully balancing the weapon before firing. Another shows him operating a rifle placed on a bench in a wooded area by applying pressure with his arm.
These videos have intensified public fascination with the case, particularly regarding how Webber acquired and operated firearms given his physical condition.
Webber's Background and Sports Career
Webber lost all four limbs as a baby after a severe blood infection led to sepsis, as previously reported by ESPN in 2023. His arms were amputated above the elbow, which enabled him to develop a unique gripping technique using his upper arms. Despite these challenges, he built a notable sports career, joining the American Cornhole League in 2023.
In a 2023 ESPN interview, Webber reflected on his life journey, stating, "It's something I've been doing my whole life, is overcoming things that people didn't think I could do." His story had previously been one of inspiration and resilience before this tragic turn of events.
American Cornhole League Responds
Following Webber's arrest, the American Cornhole League issued a formal statement acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. The organization emphasized it would allow the legal process to unfold before making any determinations about Webber's status within the league.
The case continues to develop as investigators piece together the events leading to the fatal shooting, examining both the immediate circumstances and broader questions about firearm accessibility and use by individuals with severe physical disabilities.
