Rohit Baisoya Takes Commanding Lead at Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026
Delhi's professional golfer Rohit Baisoya delivered an impressive performance, shooting a top-notch seven-under 65 to secure the round one lead at the INR 25 lakh Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026. The event, hosted by the Patna Golf Club in Bihar, marks the fourth tournament of the 2026 DP World PGTI NexGen season, showcasing emerging talent in Indian golf.
Competitive Standings After Opening Round
Following Baisoya, Bipin Mukhiya and Manoviraj Shekhawat are tied for second place, both carding scores of 68. Vinay Kumar Yadav, who won the previous NexGen event last week, made a notable hole-in-one on the first hole during his round of 72, placing him tied ninth. Among local professionals, Md Nawab emerged as the highest-placed, scoring a 70 to be tied fourth.
Course Details and Baisoya's Strategic Play
The Patna Golf Club features a par-72 nine-hole course, where players complete a round by playing the nine holes twice. Rohit Baisoya's round was marked by a mix of skill and strategy. On the front nine, he recorded four birdies and two bogeys. However, it was his back-nine performance that truly stood out, where he scored an eagle and three birdies.
Baisoya's highlight came on the 13th hole, where he chipped in from a bunker for an eagle. He also executed two quality up and downs from greenside bunkers on the 12th and 14th holes, resulting in birdies. Reflecting on his game, Baisoya emphasized his success on the par-5s, stating, "I made all the four Par-5s count by scoring an eagle and three birdies on them. I hit a lot of fairways which is the key on this course. The stretch from the 12th to the 14th was special as I played three outstanding bunker shots there to get myself out of trouble and pick up an eagle and two birdies."
Implications for the Tournament
This strong start positions Rohit Baisoya as a frontrunner in the championship, setting the stage for an exciting competition in the upcoming rounds. The Alpha Sports Academy Golf Championship 2026 continues to highlight the growth of golf in India, with players like Baisoya demonstrating exceptional skill and determination on the course.
