Tunisia coach Lamouchi set to be sacked after 5-1 loss

NEW DELHI: Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi is reportedly set to be dismissed following his team's heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 match.

According to Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM, officials from the Tunisian delegation have called an emergency meeting to discuss Lamouchi's future after the humiliating loss.

There have also been reports of tensions within the Tunisian camp, with arguments allegedly breaking out among squad members immediately after the match and later at the team hotel.

Lamouchi, who previously managed English clubs Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City, has been in charge of Tunisia for only five matches since taking over in January. Former Sunderland midfielder and current assistant coach Wahbi Khazri is reportedly being considered as a possible replacement.

Sweden produced an impressive display to move to the top of Group F. Yasin Ayari scored twice, while Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Mattias Svanberg also found the net in a commanding victory.

Tunisia's only goal came through Omar Rekik, but the African side struggled throughout the contest and suffered one of the heaviest defeats in their World Cup history.

The result has put Tunisia under immediate pressure ahead of their next Group F match against Japan, while Sweden will face the Netherlands.
