India's top-ranked badminton stars continued their impressive winning streak at the Singapore Open 2026 on Thursday. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty all secured victories to advance to the next rounds of the BWF Super 750 tournament.
PV Sindhu's Commanding Performance
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu displayed her class with a straight-games win over Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong. The Indian ace, seeded third, won 21-16, 21-14 in a match that lasted 42 minutes. Sindhu's aggressive play and precise net shots kept her opponent under constant pressure, allowing her to seal the victory without much trouble.
Lakshya Sen's Gritty Victory
In the men's singles, Lakshya Sen overcame a tough challenge from Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long Angus. The Indian shuttler, who recently won the Canada Open, prevailed 21-19, 18-21, 21-17 in a grueling 68-minute encounter. Sen's resilience and tactical nous helped him edge past his opponent, setting up a clash with world number one Viktor Axelsen in the next round.
Satwik-Chirag Continue Dominance
The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, currently ranked world number one, continued their formidable form. They defeated Indonesia's Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Bagas Maulana 21-14, 21-16 in a one-sided contest. The Indian duo's powerful smashes and quick court coverage proved too much for the Indonesian pair, who struggled to match their pace.
Other Indian Contingents
Mixed doubles pair Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy also advanced, winning their first-round match against Malaysia's Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei. However, women's doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy bowed out after losing to Japan's Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida.
The Singapore Open, a key event on the BWF World Tour, offers valuable ranking points and prize money. With several top players in action, the tournament has seen intense competition. India's strong showing bodes well for the upcoming World Championships.
