Bengaluru police have arrested 24 individuals and registered 17 cases in a major crackdown on ticket touts for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The operation, conducted over the past week, targeted black marketeers selling tickets at inflated prices outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Details of the Crackdown
According to police officials, the arrests were made after a coordinated effort by multiple teams. The touts were found to be selling tickets for up to three times the original price. Authorities seized 53 tickets along with an unspecified amount of cash from the accused.
Modus Operandi
The touts reportedly used various methods to acquire tickets, including buying in bulk online and through connections with authorized sellers. They then resold them to desperate fans outside the stadium, often using social media platforms to advertise.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in the illegal sale of tickets. They have also urged fans to purchase tickets only through official channels to avoid being cheated.
Public Response
Fans have welcomed the crackdown, with many expressing relief that the police are taking the issue seriously. However, some have pointed out that the problem persists due to high demand and limited availability of tickets.
The Bengaluru police have assured that the drive will continue throughout the IPL season to ensure fair access to matches.
