The sporting spirit among Varanasi's media fraternity is set to soar as the city prepares to host a prestigious annual cricket tournament. The 38th Kanishkadev Gorawala Memorial Media Cricket Competition is scheduled to commence on December 24, bringing together journalists and media professionals on the field.

Venue and Organising Bodies

The event will unfold at the Dr Sampurnanand Sports Complex under the primary organisation of the Varanasi Press Club. The club, which is operated by the Kashi Patrakar Sangh, is orchestrating the tournament as a key part of the broader Anand Chandola Sports Festival this year.

Teams and Group Division

Krishna Bahadur Rawat, the convenor of the sports organising committee, confirmed that six teams will be vying for glory in this edition. The participating squads have been strategically divided into two groups of three teams each to ensure competitive matches.

Group 'A' comprises the following teams:

  • Paradkar Ekadash
  • Vidya Bhaskar Ekadash
  • Ishwar Dev Mishra Ekadash

Group 'B' consists of:

  • Garde Ekadash

The competition will kick off with an inaugural match on Sunday, December 24. The first game will see Vidya Bhaskar Ekadash facing off against Paradkar Ekadash.

The action will continue on Monday, December 25, with a clash between Hriday Prakash Ekadash and Lalji Ekadash. The tournament will progress with subsequent matches leading to the grand finale.

The championship will reach its climax on Sunday, December 31. The final match will be contested between the top-performing teams from each group, promising an exciting end to the festival of sportsmanship.
