Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar has voiced his strong belief that the Indian women's cricket team will enter their Women's T20 World Cup clash against arch-rivals Pakistan as clear favourites. He attributes this to India's superior skill, depth, and overall team strength.
India's Advantage Over Pakistan
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated match, Nayar noted that while Pakistan possesses talented players, they lack consistency and rely heavily on a few key performers. In contrast, India's squad is well-rounded and better equipped to handle pressure. "The pressure of winning is greater on Pakistan than on India," Nayar stated. "In women's cricket, India is far ahead in skill and team strength. India walks in as the favourites, and that is how everyone sees them."
Impact of Recent Success and WPL
Nayar highlighted India's recent triumph in the 50-over World Cup last year, which ended a long ICC trophy drought. He also emphasized the positive influence of the Women's Premier League (WPL), which has helped players develop the mental and technical abilities to thrive under pressure. "With the WPL experience, these players know how to handle pressure. There was a time when they couldn't. But now, this team is equipped with the talent and the mindset to handle that pressure and live up to the tag of being favourites," he added.
The Upcoming Clash
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team will face Fatima Sana's Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday. India have qualified for the T20 World Cup semi-finals five times and reached the final once, but have yet to win the title. With their recent ODI World Cup victory, they enter this tournament as the team to beat.
Nayar's Final Verdict
Nayar concluded that Pakistan's batting relies heavily on a few individuals, and their bowling can be inconsistent under pressure, giving India a clear advantage. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as both teams vie for supremacy in the group stage.
