Akash Singh Shines on Debut as LSG Crush CSK in IPL Clash
Akash Singh Stars as LSG Beat CSK by 7 Wickets

Lucknow Super Giants delivered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, significantly denting CSK's playoff aspirations. The match saw an unlikely hero in left-arm pacer Akash Singh, who was playing his first game of this IPL season. The former CSK bowler, who had previously played for the franchise as an injury replacement in 2023, returned impressive figures of 3-26, claiming three wickets in the powerplay.

Akash Singh's Impactful Spell

The 24-year-old pacer, whose career has been hampered by injuries, exploited the bounce and carry on the pitch to perfection. He dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Urvil Patel, all falling to short-pitched deliveries. Ruturaj failed with a pull shot, Sanju's flick was caught at deep square leg, and Urvil was unable to handle the short ball as CSK slumped to 52-3. CSK finished the powerplay at a modest 37-2, struggling to cope with the pace and bounce.

Marsh and Inglis Dominate Chase

Chasing a target set up by Kartik Sharma's 42-ball 71, which provided the only resistance for CSK, the Australian opening duo of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis took the attack to the bowlers. Marsh, who grew up playing on the bouncy WACA pitch in Perth, took a particular liking to CSK's leading wicket-taker Anshul Kamboj. In the fifth over, Marsh smashed four consecutive sixes off Kamboj, followed by a boundary, to take 28 runs from the over. LSG raced to 86-0 in the powerplay, with Marsh scoring a blistering 90 off 38 balls.

Inglis played the supporting role effectively, and the pair added 135 runs in 11.4 overs. After both openers fell in successive balls, Nicholas Pooran finished the chase in the 17th over, taking 22 runs off Kamboj to seal the win. The victory leaves CSK in a must-win situation in their remaining matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans to keep playoff hopes alive.

Key Performances
